John Harbaugh has told the press that the decision of keeping or cutting Robert Griffin III is going to come down to the wire. This means that Griffin III will get one more chance to show the purple and black what he’s got. The Ravens need to see more of the same from the veteran quarterback. He needs to look solid, make good decisions and manage the game. That’s what the Ravens are looking for in a backup, and that’s what Griffin III has shown so far.
It’s important to remember that this is the bubble player bowl. Looking good in this game will help Griffin III, but a lousy performance could crush his chances. If the Ravens really aren’t decided at quarterback, they’re looking for a reason to say goodbye to Griffin III. If Griffin III doesn’t give them a reason, they have to keep three quarterbacks. A high completion percentage on some good throws gets the RGIII a spot on the roster.
Lamar Jackson is going to get a good bit of playing time in this game. If things go to plan this will be the last time we see Jackson as a quarterback in a game until next August. The Ravens need to get Jackson his work. Jackson looked wildly improved in his last outing against the Miami Dolphins. If Jackson shows even more growth at the quarterback position, and dazzles the Ravens coaching staff that could change things. A coaching staff wanting an extra roster spot for another position could convince themselves that Jackson was ready to be Flacco’s backup and that Griffin III wasn’t needed any longer. If Jackson plays lights out, it will certainly play a role in the conversation.
