Playing big in the preseason is one thing, but stepping up in the regular season is a whole other animal. Is Joe Flacco prepared to take that step in 2018?

The 2018 Baltimore Ravens team looks to be one of the best we’ve seen since the 2014 season, coincidentally the last time Baltimore made the playoffs. With a dominant defense and above-average run game, the 2018 Ravens look primed to breakout and return to the post-season.

The schedule is set for Baltimore and things look optimistic for fans to start the season. The Ravens will open 2018 at home against the lowly Buffalo Bills and are looking to set the tone for the season early with a dominant showing. The defense is undoubtedly the team’s strength, however all eyes will be on quarterback Joe Flacco this Sunday versus the Bills.

Since winning Super Bowl XLVII, Joe Flacco has been a shell of his playoff self. Flacco has been abysmal since 2013, throwing just 98 touchdowns to 74 interceptions. The Ravens have also seen the post-season just once since then (2014) and have missed the playoffs each of the last three seasons. A large part in all of this misfortune has been the play of Joe Flacco.

However, the 2018 preseason has given us all newfound hope that Flacco may finally be turning a corner in his career. Following the drafting of quarterback Lamar Jackson in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the 11-year veteran quarterback’s perception seems to have taken a complete 180. Flacco looks more determined than ever and the Ravens brass has to be ecstatic about this.

A much needed nudge:

Lamar Jackson should certainly be seen as the future for Baltimore moving forward, but as of now the Ravens will be rolling with Flacco for at least one more season. Flacco is slated to be the team’s opening day starter at quarterback and Baltimore is betting on his preseason performance to continue flourishing into the regular season.

In 2018, the Ravens have to be hoping for one last “hurrah” from the Joe-Flacco-era in Baltimore’s history. There have been plenty of ups-and-downs, but the organization, and certainly the fan-base, is hoping to leave this chapter on a high note.

September 9th, 2018 could mark the beginning of the end for Joe Flacco’s reign in Baltimore. How he chooses to end his career is ultimately up to him, but we are all certainly rooting for a resurgence and a glimpse into what is hopefully a career-year for “Joe Cool.”
