Baltimore Ravens vs. New Orleans Saints: Why it’s a big deal
The Baltimore Ravens face a contender on Sunday, and this game is big:
The last time the Baltimore Ravens hosted the New Orleans Saints was in 2010. Back then it was hyped as a potential Super Bowl preview. The Ravens won the contest 30-24 and it was one of the most impressive days of the Harbaugh era. Fast forward to 2018 and the Ravens battle with the Saints is once again a big game.
The Ravens have missed the playoffs for three straight years. Their 4-2 start comes with having the number one defense in the NFL and Joe Flacco being on pace for the best year of his career. For the first time in a long time, the Ravens will be involved in a game, where both teams are legitimate Super Bowl contenders. Eight years ago, this game was considered a battle of two Super Bowl caliber teams. The Ravens and Saints are both back to that level and it’s been a long road for the Ravens.
For the Saints it is another chance for Drew Brees to make history. The Ravens are the only team that Brees hasn’t defeated. Beating the Ravens would make Brees one of three quarterbacks that have beaten all 32 NFL teams. Brees recently became the all-time leading passer in NFL history. He’s chasing records that will be the icing on his Hall of Fame worthy resume.
This is also a chance for the Saints to prove their legitimacy as an offensive juggernaut. The Ravens have the best defense in the NFL. If the Saints can power their way past this defense, that would truly send a statement to the rest of the league. The Saints have a chance to put a stranglehold on their division. A win would give the Saints a 5-1 record and a commanding lead over the Carolina Panthers, especially if the Panthers lose a tough game against the Eagles.
The Ravens have been on a mission to prove that they are a different team this year. Winning this game would show the NFL that the Ravens are a playoff caliber team. The Ravens wouldn’t have to remind us that they aren’t the same old Ravens if they win this game. That will be obvious. This game is about climbing back to where the Ravens were from 2008-2012, one of the toughest teams in the NFL.
If the Ravens slow down the Saints and get a W, the defense will show they are special. The defense has been dominant, however they haven’t faced a test like this. This is one of the all time great quarterbacks coming in with one of the best offensive attacks in the NFL. This defense is out to make history, and winning this game would make it a day to remember.
This is a huge game. The Ravens have playoff aspirations. They have the kind of defense that can win a championship and their offense looks better than it has in years. Winning this game would be the mark of a special team in Baltimore.
