3. A Secondary that can shut things down:

The Ravens defense wasn’t crippled when Jimmy Smith missed four weeks, and they will function well in the second game Marlon Humphrey will miss. Jimmy Smith, Brandon Carr and Tavon Young are standout players. The Ravens have three safeties who can make a difference (Eric Weddle, Tony Jefferson and Anthony Levine Sr.).

Even without Humphrey, the Ravens have a more talented pass defense than Carolina has in it’s receiving corps. Devin Funchess is a decent receiver but he isn’t a true number one guy. Torrey Smith is beloved in Baltimore, but he isn’t going to play against the Ravens. With Smith out, Jarius Wright and D.J. Moore are going to have to step up. The receiving group is young and not overly accomplished. The advantage goes to the Ravens in the match up.

Next. Baltimore Ravens work out running backs: 3 big things. dark

The Ravens defense should be able to get pressure on Newton. They have the tools to slow down the Panthers receiving threats. The key is the running game. If the Ravens slow down the Panthers running game, which they are more than capable of, the Panthers offense won’t have a good day. Does this mean the Ravens will win? It gives them a very good chance of a victory. The Ravens offense has to come to play though, and they have to score when given the chance. It should be a fun one in Carolina.
