2. The Ravens appear to have no choice but moving on:

Whether the Ravens have a choice or not, the perception is that this is the perfect time to move on from Joe Flacco. The Ravens 4-5 start hasn’t eliminated them from the playoffs, however it has made the idea of starting over a very popular one in Baltimore. In the scenario that the Ravens go into the offseason wanting to trade Flacco, they will likely be looking to start a new era. The Ravens drafted Lamar Jackson for a reason and 2019 is looking more and more like that reason.

If the Ravens do go into rebuilding mode they have a chance to go into it with a rookie head coach and a quarterback in his first year as a starter. The last time the Ravens had a new quarterback and coach combination worked out great. That’s the kind of fresh start Baltimore is looking at, and that is the scenario that other teams are aware of. Why would any team take on Flacco’s contract when they could sign him as a free agent? It’s not impossible that Flacco returns as the quarterback in 2019, but it would be a little surprising at this point. If there is interest in Flacco it won’t be on the trade block.

The Flacco contract is not one that is looking great at the moment. You could argue that the contract never looked all that appealing for Baltimore, but that’s a conversation for another day. If a team wants Flacco, which is a big if, they have to dare the Ravens to cut the quarterback and wait. No team is taking on Flacco’s contract. He wouldn’t be available if he was playing up to the deal.
