Dave Toub:

Who?

Dave Toub is currently the Kansas City Chiefs Special Teams Coordinator and has been a hot name on the Head Coaching market for a few years now. Before you grab your pitchforks and tell me how stupid I am for suggesting the Ravens should change from one special teams minded coach in John Harbaugh to another in Dave Toub, hear me out. There’s a lot more that makes sense here than you’d think.

For starters, Toub has been interviewed routinely for Head Coaching opportunities, but has fallen short due to the league’s demand for young, innovative offensive minded coaches like Sean McVay or Matt Nagy. Toub remains a extremely well-qualified candidate to become a Head Coach in the NFL one day. Baltimore would be a great landing spot for him.

For starters, he’d feel right at home with Justin Tucker and Sam Koch manning their spots at kicker and punter respectively as some of the league’s best-of-the-best. Additionally, Toub is a guy who’s been around the block more than a few times and would certainly gain player’s respect for his philosophies and leadership.

Still not convinced? Toub was named the Assistant Head Coach of the Kansas City Chiefs this off-season next to Andy Reid. That says a lot about Toub’s character that the Chiefs would give him such high-command of an already well-run organization. Sure, he’s not the flashy hire Ravens Flock wants (and perhaps needs), but he’s a safe option who makes a ton of sense.
