The Baltimore Ravens got a potentially season-saving win on Sunday vs. the Bengals thanks to the performances of Lamar Jackson and Gus Edwards.

The Lamar Jackson era for the Baltimore Ravens is off to a strong start following a crucial division win against the Cincinnati Bengals. Baltimore entered week 11 needing the win in the worst way and their first round rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson delivered. But we can’t give all the credit to Jackson, as UDFA running back Gus Edwards also had himself a day.

The duo combined for 232 rushing yards on 44 carries (5.3 YPC), with big plays being delivered by both rookies. The youngsters also became the first quarterback/running back duo to each rush for 100-yards in a single-game since 2014.

That combo to do it? Colin Kaepernick and Frank Gore of the San Francisco 49ers. Does that paint a vivid image of how long it’s been since the last time this event occurred?

The Bengals defense, which have been as effective as a Chick-Fil-A in your football stadium on Sundays, was completely run over (pun completely intended) and had no answers for Baltimore’s rushing attack. Jackson ended his day with just 150 passing yards and an interception, but he rushed for 117-yards alone. His 27 carries do include a couple of kneel downs, which impacted his total YPC.

Edwards, meanwhile, grabbed 115 rushing yards plus a touchdown on just 17 carries. Edwards looked explosive vs. the Bengals and was given the bulk amount of carries for all the Ravens running backs by quite a bit. The next closest was Alex Collins, who managed just 18-yards on seven carries.

Baltimore certainly got a solid debut out of Jackson, but Edwards came out of seemingly nowhere to have arguably the best day running for any Ravens running back this season. With Joe Flacco likely out again in week 12 with his nagging hip injury, it won’t be a surprise to see Jackson earn even more playing time. Hopefully, the duo can keep this up and right the ship for Baltimore’s playoff hopes.
