The semifinalists for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame were announced yesterday. Ed Reed is obviously on that list:

While Ed Reed will have to wait until Super Bowl weekend to find out if he is going to be inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s 2019 class, he should be a first ballot lock. Reed holds the record for interception return yards and was one of the greatest ball hawks the NFL has ever seen.

It’s a nearly unanimous belief in the Ravens Flock that Reed was one of the two greatest players in the history of the franchise. It’s Reed and Ray Lewis and if you want there to be a two way tie at number one, that’s perfectly understandable. Reed was that good.

The statistics of Ed Reed are hard to believe. He had 64 interceptions, six sacks, 11 forced fumbles and 643 tackles. When Reed caught the football, there was a great chance that he would return it for a touchdown. He was the defensive player of the year in 2004 and he led the league in picks in three seasons.

From blocking kicks, to picking off passes and striping the football from the quarterback on a blitz, there was nothing that Reed couldn’t do. In the Tweet below the Pro Football Hall of Fame lists the list of modern-era candidates for the 2019 induction.

Reed may be the best of all of them. While every player and coach on this list is great, Reed is arguably the greatest player at his position. There is no reason to believe that Reed won’t be inducted in 2019.

There is a very good chance that Reed will go into the Hall of Fame with one or two legendary Pittsburgh Steelers. Alan Faneca and Hines Ward are both semifinalists. The Ravens other rivals, the New England Patriots have two players on the list as well. Richard Seymour and Ty Law are both players who helped the Patriots become a dynasty.

It looks like it will be another exciting Hall of Fame weekend for Ravens fans. If Reed does get inducted, it will be back to back years with a Ravens player being enshrined. Last year Ray Lewis put on a show with his Hall of Fame induction speech.
