For a Baltimore Ravens defense that is lacking in the turnover department, Patrick Mahomes gives the team a great chance for an uptick in production.
The Baltimore Ravens are currently riding a three-game winning streak thanks to a new offensive philosophy and strong defensive play. While the team’s win have all come against team’s under .500, Baltimore will get perhaps its most daunting threat of the year on Sunday: the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Chiefs are on a historic pace this season offensively and it all starts with quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes is playing at an unreal level for a second-year pro, as the young man from Texas Tech University has thrown for nearly 4,000-yards with 41 touchdowns in 12-games. The play-calling by future Hall of Fame Head Coach Andy Reid, combined with the awesome offensive firepower of guys like Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce have this team thinking “Super Bowl.”
However, when push has come to shove Mahomes has been prone to making his fair share of mistakes. Against solid defenses such as the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Los Angeles Rams, Mahomes has turned the ball over a plenty. In a game against the latter of those two, Mahomes turned the ball over five times.
It’s this kind of risky quarterback play that could have the Ravens motivated to play the Chiefs that much tougher. More importantly, it’s that kind of performance the team will need from its defense to secure a huge win.
