10 observations from Baltimore Ravens regular season finale
2. The officiating was terrible and at pivotal moments:
Did you know it was illegal to run slant routes? Michael Crabtree got called for offensive pass interference on a play where he didn’t even come close to committing a penalty. This was just one example of bad officiating in this game. For the most part, the Ravens saw the officials help the Browns. It felt like just about every call in the second half went the Browns way. Breshad Perriman ended up with a reception on the final drive that still doesn’t look like a touchdown. The Ravens also got a Lamar Jackson touchdown called back on a very week holding penalty on Maxx Williams.
1. The Ravens just went on their most impressive regular season streak ever:
The Ravens are 6-1 with Lamar Jackson as the starting quarterback. They came from 4-5 to 10-6. They switched quarterbacks, ran a new offense and they didn’t get in as a wild card, but a division champion. The Ravens have never really had this impressive of a stretch in the regular season. The closest thing that compares is the 9-2 start of the 2012 season.
The difference here is that the Ravens went on their tear with their backs up against the wall. John Harbaugh has orchestrated one of the most important seven game spans in the history of the franchise. Missing the playoffs for four straight years would have been a lot different than surging back into the postseason. The Ravens are division champions and no matter how this this season ends, this has been an incredible year for the franchise.
