Round 6: Jaylen Smith

Speaking of familiarity, it doesn’t get any better than adding Lamar Jackson’s former college teammate, Jaylen Smith, to the roster.

Smith was by no means a world-beater during his stint in Louisville. In his four seasons as a Cardinal, Smith had just 15 touchdown receptions and 152 receptions. However, Smith enjoyed his best season as a junior with Jackson at quarterback, catching 60 passes for 980-yards and 7 touchdowns. During Jackson’s incredible two-year stretch, Smith caught 13 of his 15 career touchdowns and averaged 18.1 YPR.

During my week down in Mobile, Alabama for the 2019 Senior Bowl, I got to personally talk to Smith about a potential reunion with Jackson in Baltimore:

By this point in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens would be wise to target receivers who could establish quick chemistry with Jackson, and it doesn’t get any better than Jaylen Smith. Perhaps Smith doesn’t have Pro Bowl upside, but the familiarity would give Jackson a chance to become a more comfortable, confident passer faster.
