Baltimore Ravens: Top 15 free agent signings of all-time
The Ravens wooed Eric Weddle off the free agent market in 2016. Weddle could have gone to the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he chose Baltimore. Weddle has been a great player for the Ravens. He had 10 interceptions in his first two years as a Raven.
He was voted to the Pro Bowl in the 2018 year and was part of the top defense in the league. Baltimore won the AFC North in 2018, allowing Weddle to finally get the $1 million bonus built into his contract for a playoff appearance. He helped the Ravens get back to the postseason for the first time since 2014.
Weddle quickly became a fan favorite in Baltimore. He is such an enjoyable player from his big beard, his victory ice cream and his awesome interactions with the media after games. There’s nothing not to like about Weddle.
In 2018, his leadership was very much on display. He was always in defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale’s ear. There was no player that was more plugged in than Weddle on that 2018 Ravens defense.
The Ravens have an interesting decision to make with Weddle this offseason, which makes him a unique entry on this list. Weddle is 34 years old and still has one year left on his contract. The Ravens could move on and save some cap space, so his future is very much up in the air.
Whatever happens this offseason, Weddle has had a good run as a member of the Ravens. The Ravens struggled to find a free safety after Ed Reed. Weddle filled a void that had lingered since 2013.
