Baltimore Ravens: Top 15 free agent signings of all-time
Trevor Pryce is a player who has a borderline argument for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He had 91 sacks over 14 seasons in the NFL. Pryce was a legend before he became a Raven. He had 64 career sacks before he even wore the purple and black.
He came to Baltimore in 2006 and was a big part of what made the Ravens the No. 2 seed in the playoffs that year. The Ravens led the league in sacks that year. Pryce led the way with 13 sacks. Adalius Thomas had 11. Bart Scott and Terrell Suggs hovered around 10 and Ray Lewis even pitched in five. Pryce was the piece that took a good pass rushing defense and turned it up a notch.
While Pryce only had one monster year with the Ravens and injuries had an impact on that, he was a good part of the defensive game plan for three of his five seasons in Baltimore. If someone had told Ozzie Newsome that Pryce was going to have 26 sacks and be one of the best run defenders over five years, Newsome might have even paid him more.
This was easily one of the most important additions the Ravens have ever had in free agency. While Newsome never was one for the flashy free agent signings, he wasn’t afraid to spend cap space on the perfect fit for the team.
Pryce was a 6-foot-5 pass-rushing machine. While many of the Ravens best pass rushers were outside linebackers like Peter Boulware and Terrell Suggs, Pryce got it done as a defensive end. This gave the Ravens even more from their stand-up pass rushers. It was impossible to block everybody and Pryce really led the charge to the quarterback.
