Zach Brown:
It’s mystifying that a player like Zach Brown not only remains unsigned, but was upright cut by his former team. The Washington Redskins must think they’ve got something special going on in their linebacking core, because letting go of one of the most productive and efficient linebackers in the league looks silly.
Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens are suddenly thinner at linebacker and could use someone like Brown. Brown, who is entering his eighth-season in the league, has already been with three different teams, yet has been productive with all of them. Brown has had no less than 77 tackles in a single-season, and has 223 tackles since 2017 (played 29 of 32 games). The production alone makes him a valued commodity.
In Baltimore, the Ravens have young success plans in guys like Patrick Onwuasor and Kenny Young. While both could blossom into studs, especially Onwuasor, veteran leadership and stability is still needed. Adding Brown to the equation not only fills this need, but it just makes sense.
Even besides the potential impact on the field, Brown is a certified leader who’s been to many locker rooms and commanded the respect of his peers. Baltimore just lost all sorts of those kind of players this past week alone. Leadership is an underrated aspect of what makes good defenses great. The Ravens would be wise to invest in Brown for that.
While adding Zach Brown would help the Ravens defense in more ways than one, it simply doesn’t feel like a reality. We can wait and see, and cross our fingers, but bet on Baltimore placing their faith in their young linebackers and potentially drafting more bodies at the position.
