This is the grouping of freak athletes that all have at least one major thing to be concerned about. These are the boom or bust players of the draft class. With the safe bets, there is enough on tape to see that they all have relatively high floors and high ceilings. In the Cautious Optimism range, it can go either way. D.K. Metcalf was the talk of the NFL Combine. He’s built like a tank and he is incredibly fast. He also isn’t a great route runner, and wasn’t overly productive at Ole Miss. Brown had 85 receptions in 2018 while the injury prone Metcalf has had 67 receptions in three seasons.
Hakeem Butler is a 6’6″ beast of a receiver. If he works out in the NFL, he could be a superstar. His hands are a major concern though, and the Ravens have to weigh that heavily into their drafting process. Paris Campbell was at Ohio State for four years and 2018 was his one great season. Dwayne Haskins loved throwing it Campbell’s way but he seems raw coming into the NFL.
The best player in this grouping is Marquise Brown. He is coming off back to back 1,000 yard seasons for Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray at Oklahoma. Brown could be the best deep threat in this draft but he is undersized. He may be the next Desean Jackson but he could easily be the next John Ross as well.
