2019 NFL Draft: The Baltimore Ravens pick at 22. What should be in play at each position group?

The 2019 NFL Draft is almost here and the Ravens have to prepare for what could happen in the first round. Here is a look at how the first round should shape up for Eric DeCosta at each position group.

Quarterback:

The Baltimore Ravens got their NFL Draft pick at quarterback last year. That doesn’t mean the Ravens can ignore the quarterback position. Teams may start to feel itchy to get a quarterback by the time the Ravens are on the clock. It really depends on where Dwayne Haskins falls. Kyler Murray is probably going number one to the Arizona Cardinals. If the New York Giants and Miami Dolphins pass on Haskins it could get interesting. Haskins is the wild card, but Daniel Jones and Drew Lock should be on the board.

Running back:

The top running back in this draft class is up for debate but the consensus seems to be Alabama’s Josh Jacobs. Jacobs will be the first running back selected (you would think) and this year there’s no guarantee that a running back even goes in the first round. The Ravens probably don’t go with a first round running back, but if they do all the options should be available.

Wide Receiver:

Somebody is going to take a chance on D.K, Metcalf before the Ravens get to the podium (Calling it); which is quite alright because he’s a boom or bust prospect. The draft is heavy with defensive talent so the receivers probably won’t start falling off the board in a run until the 20’s of the first round. There is a good chance the Ravens can grab a top level prospect here. Look for Kelvin Harmon, N’Keal Harry, A.J. Brown and Deebo Samuel as the top options.

Tight End:

Noah Fant could get some suitors in the top 10. Fant would make sense for the Ravens because he’s a pass catcher and the position label is becoming less important here. T.J. Hockenson would be the only other tight end to look at but it’s doubtful the Ravens would go there with Mark Andrews and Hayden Hurst on the roster.

More from Ravens Draft

Offensive line

The top two tackles will be off the board so cross off Jonah Williams from Alabama and Jawan Taylor from Florida. Andre Dillard could be in play, it really depends on how high the NFL views him (I don’t have a first round grade on him). Cody Ford could be in play and he’s a player that could play right tackle or be a guard. Garrett Bradbury is the top center in the draft and the Ravens would have to at least think about it if he was there at 22.

Defensive Line:

Quinnen Williams, Christian Wilkins and Ed Oliver will be off the board in the top 10 picks if common sense drafting is what we get. This leaves maybe Rashan Gary from Michigan and Dexter Lawrence from Clemson, for the Ravens if they want him. Don’t rule out Jefferey Simmons from Ole’ Miss.

Edge Rushers:

The draft is very heavy with edge talent for the defense. The first few edge rushers off the board should be Nick Bosa from Ohio State, Josh Allen from Kentucky and Montez Sweat from Ole’ Miss. If the Ravens want a pass rusher, they have to hope that Clelin Ferrell from Clemson or Brian Burns from FSU are available. It’s important to remember that there is a ton of talent at this position, so they don’t have to target it in the first round.

Linebackers:

Devin White from LSU and Devin Bush from Michigan should be top 15 selections. After that the Ravens may want to wait until a later round to take a linebacker as the value isn’t right for most of the linebacker prospects at 22.

Cornerbacks:

For the sake of this conversation let’s assume Greedy Williams is off the board at 22. This would leave two reasonable values at the position in my estimation. Deandre Baker from Georgia and Byron Murphy Washington would be solid picks. It’s hard to imagine this is where the Ravens would go with their great cornerback depth but Jimmy Smith and Brandon Carr are getting up there.

Safety:

This is another position that the Ravens probably won’t attack in first round. Nasir Adderley from Delaware is the best bet here. Washington Huskie, Taylor Rapp and Mississippi State’s Jonathan Abram could find themselves in the conversation as well.
