7-Round Mock Draft: Baltimore Ravens fill needs, help the offense
By Mike Reid
The Ravens continue to build up that O-line and get a potential starting guard in Alex Bars in the 5th round. After starting 31 games for the Fighting Irish, his senior year was cut short in the 5th game of the season when Bars tore his ACL. So there is some risk but his NFL-ready size, 6’6″ 316 pounds, and ability to run-block are huge pluses to Bars’ game. Doubling down on interior lineman would make sense for the Ravens, as this could be Marshal Yanda’s last season. As a rookie Bars might be looking at more of a red-shirt year if he is still recovering due to his injury. By year two, Bars could be plugged in at right guard in place of Yanda, if he were to step away from the game.
The Ravens get another big, down-field weapon for Lamar Jackson, in Buffalo’s Anthony Johnson. At 6’2″ 209 pounds and 31″ arms, Johnson has ideal size to be an outside receiver in the NFL. In just two seasons at Buffalo, Johnson’s production shows how dangerous he could be as a vertical threat. He was a first-team All-Mac selection both seasons, while finishing with 25 career touchdowns and averaging 17.8 yards per catch. Johnson would come in as a rookie and fight to be the 4th receiver on the depth cart with Jordan Lasley and Jaleel Scott. By year two Johnson can very well be implemented into the offense as a deep threat and red-zone option.
The Ravens double down on Penn State products and edge rushers with the selection of Shareef Miller. The former Nittany Lion would bring some size, physicality, and ability to get after the quarterback to the Ravens defense. He finished his 3-year career with 14.5 sacks and 31.5 tackles for loss, Miller was also named the teams co-Defensive player of the year in 2018. Bringing in two pass rushers would make some sense for the Ravens.
After losing Terrell Suggs and Za’Darius Smith in free agency, they are now with only one known pass rushing commodity in Matthew Judon. Adding Joe Jackson earlier in the draft and Miller later would certainly set a fire under Tim Williams and Tyus Bowser to perform to their draft status. If they don’t improve, the Ravens would already have their replacements in place.
