2019 NFL Draft: Day 2 wide receiver targets for Baltimore Ravens
By Mike Reid
J.J. Arcega-Whiteside (Stanford)
If the Ravens are looking for a receiver that is big, has a wide catch radius, and can help in the red-zone, Stanford’s J.J. Arcega-Whiteside would be the guy. The former Cardinal would give the Ravens offense something it doesn’t have on their roster at all: a dangerous outside threat with spectacular catch ability. At 6’2″ and 225 pounds, Arcega-Whiteside has tremendous size at the receiver position. He uses his long frame well while boxing out defensive backs and making difficult catches look routine.
In 2018 at Stanford, Arcega-Whiteside put up some really impressive numbers, hauling in 63 receptions for 1,059 yards and 14 touchdowns. Finishing top 5 in the NCAA in touchdowns, he showed how dangerous a red-zone threat he can be at the next level. His unique blend of size, speed and jump-ball catch ability reminds me of Detroit Lions receiver Kenny Golladay.
After running a 4.49 40-yard dash at his pro-day, Arcega-Whiteside almost certainly propelled himself into 2nd round of the draft. The Ravens would have to do some moving around to secure him, but “JJAW” would come right in and become one of Lamar Jackson’s go-to targets as a rookie, especially in the red-zone.
