Week 9: VS. New England Patriots

One of the Baltimore Ravens arch-nemeses will come to Charm City in week nine, following the Ravens bye week. Considering how dominant Baltimore has been under John Harbaugh following a bye week, it’s more than fair to like the team’s chances of victory.

Unfortunately for them, that team just so happens to be the reigning Super Bowl LIII champion New England Patriots. Sure, this isn’t the same old Patriots the Ravens are used to seeing, but they nonetheless remain a dangerous opponent. So long as Tom Brady is on the field, anything is possible for the Pats.

Even so, this New England unit puts a large emphasis on its tough-as-nails defense and its talented backfield. With the team losing future Hall of Fame tight end Rob Gronkowski to retirement this off-season, this could be even more relevant in 2019. Thankfully, Baltimore has been exceptionally well against the run historically. Despite losing linebacker C.J. Mosley during the 2019 Free Agency period, the Ravens still possess gap-eaters Brandon Williams and Michael Pierce.

Clearly, a lot has changed since the last time these two teams faced off with each other. Way back in 2016, Baltimore was still firmly Joe Flacco’s team, and the Ravens continued to face a reloading phase of the franchise, despite ending the season 8-8. The Patriots, on the other hand, remained an explosive offense behind the arm of Brady. Now in 2019, both teams will focus on their run games to carry their offense.

By this point in the season, we should a pretty good idea of who these Baltimore Ravens are. If they’re playoff contenders, then taking down the New England Patriots will be the team’s biggest challenge to overcome.
