The Baltimore Ravens trend of adding big, strong, and massive defensive linemen continues following the selection of Texas A&M’s Daylon Mack.

The Baltimore Ravens haven’t made addressing their defensive a huge priority in the 2019 NFL Draft, but the picks they’ve made on that side of the ball have been players who can make an impact from day one. Following the theam’s third round selection of edge rusher Jaylon Ferguson, someone many expect to compete for starting reps as a rookie, Baltimore rounded out their defense with the selections of defensive back Iman Marshall and now defensive lineman Daylon Mack.

Daylon Mack was one of the highest regarded recruits back in 2015 before being quickly forgotten about at Texas A&M. His senior season was a different story, however, as Mack made a comeback and began generating some draft buzz. After earning a spot at the East-West Shrine game, Mack blew evaluators away and earned a call-up to the 2019 Senior Bowl.

While at Mobile, Daylon Mack turned up his game and made buzz all week. Suddenly, Mack was being talked about as an early day three pick after being universally considered a undrafted type of player. Now, the Baltimore Ravens pulled the trigger on him with the 160th overall pick.

Mack will find himself in a locker room full of large men on the defensive line, including two who he should model his pro-game technique after: Brandon Williams and Michael Pierce.

Wiliams and Pierce are two of the best defensive linemen in the NFL at absorbing blocks and stuffing the run. This is precisely where Mack will find his best success. None of these three will ever lead the team in sacks, but Baltimore places a larger value on defensive linemen who are gap eaters and make life easier for their linebackers to come in and clean up plays.

Considering Wiliams’ large cap-hit and Pierce’s impending Free Agency following the 2019 season, Mack could be a pick the Ravens make as a stash guy and eventually turn into a starter. It’s simply a classic Baltimore Ravens pick. Either way, fans should be excited about the potential that Daylon Mack brings to Baltimore.
