Is there a spot for Kenneth Dixon?

Man, what could’ve been… I was guilty of believing Kenneth Dixon could’ve become the Baltimore Ravens next great running back, only to have to be the bearer of bad news when I had to admit that those expectations needed to be let go of. It’s been a roller-coaster of a ride, but it might all come to an end this off-season.

When Dixon was selected in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, many believed that he was capable of being a starting running back and possessed the talent to be a true game-changing player. As a rookie, Ravens Flock got a glimpse of this towards the end of the season, as Dixon was fighting off injuries all year long.

Since then, it’s been the same old song and dance, as Dixon has struggled to stay on the field consistently due to injuries and suspensions. It’s a bummer, too, because Dixon still shows flashes from time-to-time of the awesome back he could have been.

Now, Dixon faces a depth chart with the likes of Mark Ingram, Gus Edwards, and Justice Hill, all of whom are practically locks for the final 53-man roster. It’s a very rare scenario in which a team elects to keep more than three running backs, and that’s not even including the team’s fullback, Pat Ricard. Things are looking grim for Dixon’s chances of staying in Baltimore.

While this isn’t to say Kenneth Dixon’s career is over, it’s looking bleak for a future in Charm City. The fact of the matter is that Dixon had his chance and didn’t seize the opportunity. Hopefully, this will motivate Dixon to come into the 2019 off-season with a chip on his shoulder. If there was any time to prove his worth to the team, it’s now. Maybe he makes the roster or at least makes a good enough impression that a team will trade or sign him before the season.

There’s plenty more story lines to follow this off-season for the Baltimore Ravens, but these three in particular stand out the most. The product that Baltimore gives the fans in 2019 will be predicated almost entirely off of what we are looking at here, and we’re hoping that all of these story lines come to a happy ending.
