Baltimore Ravens: 3 Big-name roster bubble players

We’re still a ways out from having to worry about tough roster cuts, but there’s a few big-name players who could be on their way out soon for the Ravens.

Change is coming to the Baltimore Ravens. A youth movement is now in place with a young franchise quarterback in Lamar Jackson, as well as defensive players who have been groomed to become successors for the veterans who left the team. New General Manager Eric DeCosta made it clear this off-season that keeping aging players will not be in the future plans any longer.

Still, DeCosta did sign some veteran players in Mark Ingram and Earl Thomas as proof that he’s more than willing to bring in talented studs despite age. Essentially, DeCosta is in the business of building a winning team, while having an emphasis on reloading and retooling the core of the roster.

Looking at the Ravens roster now, there’s young players at most of the team’s positions. This is an exciting discovery until we look at the talent and realize that some are replacement level players for one reason or another. Whether it be injury, suspension, or failure to live up to their draft status, some players, regardless of any controversy, will have to go this off-season.

In example, it wouldn’t be totally surprising to see Baltimore move on from punter Sam Koch. While I personally would be floored, it makes sense to go younger at much cheaper price on a position that (typically) isn’t game-breaking. But, because of Koch’s talent, it would also make sense to retain him.

For the players we’re about to discuss, there simply isn’t much room to hold on to them. These three players have had plenty of opportunities to earn their keep and have failed to do so. It may be hard to do, but these three players should ultimately be cut. Who are they? Let’s dive right in…
