There is a lot of competition for the newly a available, Gerald McCoy. Here are three things to think about:
1. Luring McCoy to Baltimore would speak volumes about the Ravens:
Gerald McCoy left his visit with the Cleveland Browns without a contract and an appointment to visit Baltimore, according to reports. The Browns have been proclaimed the winners of the NFL offseason. A few years ago, Tony Jefferson chose the Baltimore Ravens over the Cleveland Browns. It was a more obvious decision before Baker Mayfield, a bevy of Browns acquisitions and hope was restored in Cleveland. If McCoy makes the same choice Jefferson did, it’s a big win for Eric DeCosta.
McCoy has made it clear that he wants to go to a winner. It is worth noting that Golden Tate said the before same thing before signing with the New York Giants. Everybody says they want to win, yet the decision McCoy makes could come down to a number of factors. Reports say that about 10 teams are in on McCoy. The Ravens probably won’t win on a bidding war. That means if McCoy ends up with Baltimore, he really wants to be here. McCoy won’t be a Raven unless he buys what DeCosta and John Harbaugh are selling.
A signing like this would be a huge vote of confidence in the Ravens. The Ravens have had the same coach for 12 years (counting 2019). They have seamlessly gone from a legendary general manager in Ozzie Newsome to DeCosta. The Ravens are coming off their first playoff appearance since 2014. The Lamar Jackson era has begun in Baltimore. If the Ravens sign McCoy it will be because he believes that the Ravens are opening up a new window for a championship.
