Why should Baltimore be on the top of Gerald McCoy’s shortlist? Here are three reasons why:

1. Baltimore is a good place to be:

It is not a knock against Cleveland, but Baltimore is the better set up. In Baltimore McCoy would be going to one of the most consistent franchises in football. The Ravens have had one losing season in John Harbaugh’s 11 year run with the Ravens. Eric DeCosta is already proving himself as a general manager and “The Castle” in Owings Mills is a decked out facility for the football team.

The Ravens have an impressive track record of pulling in free agents. Tony Jefferson, Steve Smith Sr. and Eric Weddle were all players who the Ravens lured away from other options. The set up in Baltimore is impressive and the ownership of Steve Bisciotti is rock solid. Free agents often come to Baltimore thinking it’s an option and once they see how the Ravens do business it becomes the best option.

Baltimore is an underrated city and there is a lot going for this area. The weather isn’t overly extreme. There’s snow in the winter but it’s not like upstate New York or Boston kind of snow. The summer has high humidity, yet it’s more mild than it is in Tampa, Florida. Cleveland isn’t exactly a destination city and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame only helps it so much. The Baltimore area is a nice spot to be in. It’s close to Annapolis and Washington D.C. and the Chesapeake Bay is close by. Maybe it’s my Marylander bias but Baltimore seems to top Cleveland in a lot of ways. Let me ask you, where would you want to be?
