2. Eliminate the fumbles that plagued him in 2018
The fumbles have to stop. Turnovers are the number one way for any quarterback to get himself into trouble. Fumbles are the most self-inflicted turnovers there are. In 2018 fumbles were an every game situation for Jackson. There were fumbles in the backfield from handling snaps and handing the ball off. There were fumbles in the pocket, the open field and even one as he attempted to jump the ball into the end zone.
Jackson had 12 fumbles and he has only started seven regular season games. Forget the throwing motion. Fumbling is by far the biggest concern for Jackson. A fumble here or there happens. 12 fumbles in seven games is a problem. Jackson needs to be more careful with the football. This is a problem that may be able to get fixed by coaching, but it always has to be something that is a focal point.
Jackson already has a big target on his back. Defensive coordinators already know that they have to make every hit against Jackson count. There’s nothing malicious about it, that’s just defense in the NFL. Defensive players do their homework and they understand that Jackson coughs the ball up at an eye opening rate. Jackson better fix the problem because his opponents are always going to be trying to strip the football away.
