One of the biggest acquisitions from the Baltimore Ravens offseason was Mark Ingram. Here are three goals for the veteran running back.

1. Be the main attraction

The Baltimore Ravens are giving Mark Ingram a chance he hasn’t had in a while. All of the sudden, Ingram has the chance to one again be the featured back of an offense. The Ravens are going to run the football a good bit, this is the one thing we know about the offense in 2019. Ingram hasn’t been the centerpiece of an offense since he won the Heisman Trophy at Alabama. For the last eight years he was just one of the many weapons for Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints. Ingram will instantly become a core part of the 2019 Ravens and their identity.

Ingram hasn’t had more than 230 carries in his NFL career. Even in a running back by committee system the Ravens will have, he should have a new season high in that category. Ingram won the Heisman Trophy in 2009. In that season he had 271 carries for 1,658 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also had 32 receptions for 334 yards. It’s been quite a long time since he’s been the workhorse of an offense to this extent. The stats from his Heisman season will be much harder to come by with the Ravens yet that’s the kind of workload he can expect.

Think about it this way. Gus Edwards racked up 137 rushing attempts and he didn’t become a main part of the offense until Lamar Jackson became the starting quarterback. The offense is going to be less one dimensional, yet the guiding light will be the running game. Edwards saw a high number of carries and he was less versatile than Ingram.
