2. Have five interceptions in 2019

Humphrey has had two interceptions in both seasons of his career thus far. This is one of the reasons he doesn’t get more hype despite being one of the most receiver limiting presences on the planet. He has the same problem that Jimmy Smith has always had. These players have ball skills but turning defense into offense isn’t what their game is about. They are masters of tight coverage and taking receivers away.

For Humphrey, a good goal is five interceptions. It stretches him past what he has already accomplished and it’s not outlandish. The one area Humphrey needs to get better at is hurting quarterbacks for bad throws. He needs to be more aggressive in picking his spots for interceptions. Adding three interceptions to his standard two per season would do wonders for his first goal, which is a goal that ties everything together. Like home runs for baseball players, interceptions are what gets people excited about defensive backs.

The one thing that could help Humphrey is that the secondary around him is as talented as advertised. Quarterbacks may want to avoid Humphrey, however they can’t be afraid to throw the football. If nobody is open, quarterbacks will have to force the ball into harms way. This could rise the interception numbers all across the board. With the Ravens defense, especially in sub packages with more defensive backs, turnovers seem like a very possible outcome every time.
