People can say anything about Lamar Jackson that they want, he was the most important pick the Ravens have had in a long time. The Ravens took a legitimate shot at drafting the next franchise quarterback. They hired Greg Roman as the new offensive coordinator specifically for Jackson. They drafted Marquise Brown, Miles Boykin and Justice Hill to fit their vision of the offense they are going to build around Jackson. Everything the Ravens are doing is because of Jackson. Whether you believe in him or not is inconsequential to this discussion. He is the most important draft pick of the past four years and it isn’t even close.

When the Ravens sent Joe Flacco to Denver that was a huge moment. The Ravens shipped their quarterback of 11 seasons away to the Broncos. This gave Eric DeCosta a fresh start. Ozzie Newsome may have made the pick but make no mistake about it, Jackson is DeCosta’s quarterback. Jackson is the player that is central to all of his plans. Jackson is the quarterback of the Ravens. Everything hinges on his performance.

If the Ravens did this right and they can retain Ronnie Stanley with a second contract, the Ravens will have drafted three core players in three consecutive drafts. They got a defensive superstar in Humphrey. They got a left tackle in Ronnie Stanley. Jackson is the quarterback for Stanley to protect. Jackson is the ultimate x-factor in the fate of the Ravens. These three players are huge building blocks of this team.
