2019 Baltimore Ravens: 3 goals for Michael Pierce
3. Be the best defensive lineman on the field:
The Ravens have competition for Pierce. Daylon Mack was a fifth round pick, who honestly could have been drafted earlier than he was. I literally cannot believe that Gerald Willis didn’t get drafted. Brandon Williams is a player that is pegged as the leader of the defensive line. Pierce has to show that he’s the best player the Ravens defensive line has. He needs to prove that the doubts that crept in this offseason were unwarranted.
Pierce is a player who could climb up to a Pro Bowl caliber season. He’s got the talent. We’ve seen him play at a very high level. Pierce doesn’t have to outproduce himself by a large margin. He just needs to take it up a notch. This is a contract year for him. Pierce wants to get paid. This is the time where he has to play the best football of his career. It’s not enough for him to just be a strong part of the defensive front. He has to show that he can be a difference maker at his position.
Pierce was on a trajectory that was going to be very beneficial to his bottom line. This offseason has put all of that into question. Pierce has the ability to get in shape and get motivated. He has the chance to shut up a lot of noise and to prove that he is worth a major investment from Eric DeCosta and the Ravens.
