5. Tavon Young: Rated 77 overall

The Ravens gave Tavon Young a nice contract extension because he is one of the better nickel cornerbacks in the NFL. The cornerback who covers the slot has become incredibly important because sub packages are almost like base defenses these days. If Young is considered to be one of the best nickel corners in the game, why is his rating in the 70’s? It’s a fair question to point towards EA Sports.

Young had 37 tackles, two sacks and an interception in the 2018 season. He missed the 2017 season with an injury but in his rookie year he had two interceptions. Young has ball skills and the ability to jump routes. His awareness is a 78 and his catching rating is a 70. Young is a 77 in man coverage and a 75 in zone coverage. Is EA Sports watching different Ravens games than we are? Young has all the skills you look for in a nickel cornerback but his rating wouldn’t tell you that.

Young is underrated in this game. He’s not going to be in the 90’s but the 70’s implies he is a much worse player than he is. It’s almost like they looked at Humphrey and Jimmy Smith being in the mid 80’s and had to knock Young down a peg. Young is going to be a very important piece to the defense. If the Ravens secondary lives up to it’s billing, Young will show EA Sports they were wrong.
