5. Jimmy Smith: Rated 84 overall

The career of Jimmy Smith is more overlooked than any other player in Baltimore Ravens franchise history. The man gets no love despite being a shutdown cornerback who was more than deserving of a couple Pro Bowl selections throughout his nine-year career. Instead, he’s the biggest afterthought in the league thanks to injuries and suspension.

Still, those shouldn’t effect one’s ability to play football at a high-level, and the Madden 20 team nailed this one. Similarly to Michael Pierce, EA Sports correctly identifies just how good Smith is at his job for Baltimore. Smith finds himself inside Madden 20’s top-25 cornerbacks at 84 overall. Smith is tied with two of his AFC North peers in William Jackson and Joe Haden, as well as Los Angeles Rams’ Nickell Robey-Coleman.

Madden nailed Smith’s ability as a lock-down, press corner with a 92 press rating. From there, Smith is given solid man and zone coverage grades of 84 and 81 respectively. Not too shabby for an older and often injured player.

It’s nice to see Jimmy Smith get the love he rightfully deserves. If Smith was able to see the field consistently, many would be able to appreciate his skills. Instead, he remains the best kept secret in NFL secondaries. Thankfully, his work is appreciated by some.
