Unlike Breshad Permian, Baltimore Ravens fans are thrilled with the idea of Marquise Brown. Brown’s ceiling is through the roof, but he comes with risk…

Nothing scares Baltimore Ravens fans more than a wide receiver whose game s built around speed. The team fell into this trap once in the form of Breshad Perriman, and now many fear the same could come about for rookie Marquise Brown.

The thing is, there’s a world of difference between the two. Perriman was a bad pick at the time and now history shows that it was a colossal miss for the Ravens. The team’s failure to find talent at the wide receiver position has continually clouded the team’s offense, and Perriman didn’t help the issue whatsoever.

However, Marquise Brown appears to be cut off an entirely different cloth. Brown’s skill-set is far more diverse than that of Periman‘s, and drops aren’t as big issue for Brown as they were Perriman. Right now, the biggest similarities between the two are an injury before their careers got/get started. Perriman missed his entire rookie season with a PCL strain. The fear is Brown could suffer from a similar situation, but it’s not nearly as catastrophic.

In fact, there’s little reason to believe that Brown will miss significant time in 2019. While his Lisfranc injury could (literally) slow him down, he will still be able to light up defenses. There’s plenty of optimism that Brown will have a massive impact for Baltimore as a rookie.

Truth be told, the upside that Marquise Brown possesses is quite formidable…

When finding good comparisons that come to mind for Brown, two stick out more than others: Los Angeles Rams’ Brandin Cooks and Cincinnati Bengals’ John Ross.

The comparison to Cooks will have many salivating, while the comparison to Ross will have many shuddering in fear. But here’s the catch: I’m not comparing the talent, as both are supreme athletes who could thrive in a good situation. Instead, I’m talking about their careers thus far.

For Cooks, he’s successfully recorded four-straight 1,000-yard seasons receiving and with three different teams in that stretch of time. Meanwhile, Ross hasn’t been as fortunate, missing significant snaps throughout his first two seasons in the NFL.

Marquise Brown compares well to both Cooks and Ross in terms of athleticism, upside, and skill-set.  If you take away circumstance, the three are nearly interchangeable. However, the point of this article is to discuss the two potential paths facing Brown.

Naturally, we want the path closer to that of Brandin Cooks for Marquise Brown. Still, we can’t ignore that the start to Brown’s career is a lot more comparable to that of John Ross. We can’t know until he plays how the start to Marquise brown’s career will play out, but these scenarios appear to be the ceiling and floor for his rookie season.
