According to reports, Robert Griffin III sustained an injury on his right thumb that will keep him sidelined for four to eight weeks.
The Baltimore Ravens got their first injury in a training camp practice. During the open practice at M&T Bank Stadium, Robert Griffin III hurt his thumb. According to reports it is a hairline fracture that will keep him out four to eight weeks. The good news is that Griffin III will be fine to be the backup for most if not all of the 2019 season.
The Ravens don’t need to get a replacement for Griffin III. First of all, Griffin III is the perfect backup for Lamar Jackson. Secondly, Griffin could be ready by the time the regular season starts. The onlu thing the Ravens need is another quarterback to get them through camp and the preseason.
The Ravens did draft Trace McSorely in the sixth round, but don’t expect him to be fighting for the number two spot at quarterback. McSorely was brought in to be a gadget quarterback, a weapon to be used alongside Jackson. This is a huge chance for McSorely to show that he is more than that, yet Griffin III’s understudy role is safe.

Posted on Twitter, this video from Spencer N. Schultz shows the play. This is exactly what you don’t want to happen in practice. It’s the easiest way for a quarterback to get an injury.
I was able to catch the rep that RG3 injured his hand on. He hit Tim Williams on the helmet on his follow through. Wishing him a speedy recovery. pic.twitter.com/v7YspxYsgj

McSorely actually has the more fun job lined up for him. The Ravens probably won’t suit up three quarterbacks on game day. Griffin III would be the backup quarterback if anything were to happen to Jackson. McSorely would get some playing time as the Ravens version of Taysom Hill.
The Ravens simply need a camp arm. They need a quarterback good enough to give the second and third string players a chance to get good work done. They need somebody to play the most pointless minutes of the preseason minutiae. Griffin III had an injury that is inconvenient but well timed. This happened early in training camp so it shouldn’t affect the regular season much at all.
The Ravens will have to make a move because of this injury. That being said it doesn’t change much once the team gets past the preseason.
