Alex Lewis has been traded from the Baltimore Ravens to the New York Jets, pending a physical, after initially being labeled as a cut by Baltimore.

News broke this morning that Alex Lewis had been cut from the Baltimore Ravens. However, it has since come out that Lewis has actually been traded to the New York Jets:

This appears to be a smart move for both organizations. For Baltimore, they unload a talented but often unreliable player due to injury. The Ravens are also in the middle of a stiff competition on their offensive line, and moving Alex Lewis allows for some of the younger guys to have a better chance for starting reps.

Meanwhile for the New York Jets, they continue to bolster their offensive line. They added for Ravens offensive guard Kelechi Osemele via trade with the Oakland Raiders earlier in the off-season. Now it appears both guard spots will be shored up with Osemele and Lewis.

What makes this trade so nice is that Alex Lewis gets a fresh start in New York to repair his injury-prone label and be a key-cog for the Jets.

Ravens Flock has always held Lewis in high-regard due to his solid play when he was available. The New York Jets could have a steal on their hands if he can prove to be healthy and ready to compete.

It’s no doubt a bummer for Baltimore to move on from Lewis just three years into his career. Still, it seemed inevitable that he would be cut regardless, but now both the Ravens and Jets get something in return for Alex Lewis.
