5. Iman Marshall

There is some bad news and some good news for Iman Marshal. The good news is that Iman Marshall is a player with a bright future ahead of him, that will have plenty of time to shine in the Ravens’ four preseason games. The bad news is that Marshall plays cornerback. The Ravens backups at this position could start for other teams. Marshall was drafted to a team that didn’t need him at all.

The Ravens are going to give Marshall plenty of playing time in the preseason because they don’t need him right away. Marshall needs to show the Ravens that he is too good to risk losing on the practice squad and that he is closer to being a star than John Harbaugh and company predicted. Marshall had six interceptions at USC and he has the traits that you want to see at the cornerback position. There’s a lot to like with this pick.

Marshall has a chance to fight for a roster spot at a position the Ravens are deepest at. He has to steal the show. A fourth round pick typically doesn’t get cut. The problem is that a fourth round pick doesn’t usually have to look up at Marlon Humphrey, Jimmy Smith, Brandon Carr, Tavon Young and Anthony Averett on the depth chart. He’s not a lock for the roster and even if he makes the team it will be hard to get on the field. Marshall needs to steal the show and he will have a chance to do it.
