2. Can Jaylon Ferguson be more than just a bully off the edge?

Jaylon Ferguson has a great bull rush but he has to develop more ways to get into the backfield. Ever since he’s been drafted, his raw athletic prowess gave Baltimore a buzz. There is a reason however that he was a third round pick and now is a third string player. Ferguson wants to bully his way to the quarterback on just about every passing play.

With some coaching, Ferguson could become an elite outside linebacker because his talent is of the obvious kind. Ferguson looked like a rookie against the Jaguars. He flashed his explosiveness and got a good rush on the quarterback a couple of times but he was unrefined. He either wants to fly by the tackle (which he can often do) or he wants to bully the tackle backwards. He is a ball of energy who needs to be channeled. Right now he’s a young star, but in time he could grow as bright as the sun.

Ferguson had it too easy in his collegiate career. He was insanely gifted and big production was easy for him to come by. It was just like Lamar Jackson as a rookie quarterback. Jackson made College Football look easy. He came into the NFL and it was clear that he had to work on some things. Ferguson isn’t going to become Terrell Suggs in his second preseason game but his goal against the Packers is to find another way to get to the quarterback. One day, we may be talking about Ferguson the way we talk about Suggs.
