3. How this affects roster math:

John Harbaugh still has to make some tough calls when it comes down to do the roster math. The Ravens had 11 players at cornerback on their over-sized roster. Now they have 10. This essentially clears up one roster spot for the regular season. Don’t be surprised if a defensive back you weren’t thinking about makes the team. It could be a player like Stanley Jean-Baptiste. Jean-Baptiste is a player that the Ravens are familiar with and he’s shown a little promise.

It could make a roster spot for Bennett Jackson, who is stuck behind big names at the safety position. It could help make room for Justin Bethel, a special teams standout, to make the team. The Ravens have to cut it down to six or seven cornerbacks by the time the regular season is about to begin. There is one less man with a promised roster spot for the season opener and it may prevent a roster cut the coaching staff doesn’t want to make anyway.

If you are a defensive back on the lower portion of a depth chart, you feel bad for your teammate, but this isn’t bad news for you. This could create more opportunity for a handful of players. The odd man out at the cornerback or safety positions may make the team now.
