The secondary proves itself:

The hype will be matched against the Philadelphia Eagles in week three of the 2019 NFL preseason. The Baltimore Ravens cornerbacks and safeties are drooling over the thought of finally being able to play together and we’re all for it.

Newcomer Earl Thomas is ready to roll some heads and create turnovers, while his partner in crime Tony Jefferson will be known as the garbage man; the dude is going to go through the scraps and take everything out. The safety depth is alluring as well, as I still expect DeShon Elliott to see opportunities and mix in some Chuck Clark and Bennett Jackson. Oh, and who could forget about the Co-Cap himself, Anthony Levine?

The cornerbacks look lethal, even after the loss of Tavon Young. The duo of Marlon Humphrey and Jimmy Smith can go toe-to-toe with the best corner duos in the league. Beyond them is savvy veteran Brandon Carr, who has revived his career in Charm City. The depth is full of potential in guys like Anthony Averett, Maurice Canady, and versatile chess piece Iman Marshall.

Cyrus Jones is more intriguing on special teams than he is on defense, but he should get lots of looks while the team figures out its game-plan moving forward without Young.

The Baltimore Ravens defense will have its success predicated on its secondary in 2019. The front-seven has plenty of question marks, but the backend looks flawless. With any luck, the unit will make everyone else better and we shall see the defense remain elite thanks to its defensive backs.
