Baltimore Ravens: 2 things we didn’t learn this preseason
Ways to help areas of concern:
The Ravens offensive line problem is a personnel problem. They have a lot of new exciting pieces to the offense but their neglect of the offensive line is coming back to bite them. The Ravens didn’t invest anything more than a fourth round pick in the offensive line. Ben Powers doesn’t look like the plug and play starter the Ravens Flock was hoping for. Eric DeCosta has to keep an eye on the waiver wire. If any offensive lineman worth a shot becomes available, DeCosta must act. The offensive line can use any help it can get and that includes depth.
Defensively, the Ravens have to roll with what they have. They have to hope that Tim Williams and Tyus Bowser can provide enough off the edge that the defense can flourish. They have to hope that Jaylon Ferguson becomes a pass rushing specialist worth putting on the field. The answer is just sitting, waiting, wishing Jack Johnson style, yet from a personnel standpoint that’s all the purple and black can do.
Don Martindale has to be the difference maker. He has to use stunts and blitzes to provide the pass rush he needs. The Ravens have to be inventive and they have to pick their spots to come after the quarterback. The Ravens need to get what they can out of their pass rushers and force the issue for the rest of their discomforting of the quarterback needs. Martindale will be key to everything working for the defense.
