The Baltimore Ravens can absolutely justify trading for Jalen Ramsey. He’s a player that is worth making the move for:

The first thing Eric DeCosta and the Baltimore Ravens have to do is establish a cut off point for trade talks for Jalen Ramsey. Ramsey is a great cornerback so they have to be willing to give up a fair deal of capital. The ideal trade is a first round pick and a third round pick. DeCosta should not be willing to part with two number ones however anything less than that has to be considered.

The top reason the Ravens should trade for Jalen Ramsey is that they have a window to be aggressive that corresponds with Lamar Jackson‘s rookie contract. Later on the Ravens will have a harder time being flexible and inventive. Right now, you can wiggle things around until it works.

The Ravens have a window of opportunity and have looked the part of a contender through two weeks. Baltimore can win a Super Bowl this year and getting Ramsey would only increase their chances of doing that.

Think about what the Ravens would have if they traded for Ramsey. They would have two shut down corners and Brandon Carr. There would be no debate, Ramsey and Marlon Humphrey would be the best cornerback pairing in the NFL.

This would make the secondary the strength it was supposed to be when the season began. It would make it even better than it was supposed to be. When Jimmy Smith returns, it would just be gravy.

It’s hard to ignore that the injuries to Tavon Young and Jimmy Smith changed the outlook for this secondary. If both of those players were healthy this move wouldn’t be nearly as tempting. However Anthony Averett has been exposed as a weak spot of the defense.

The Ravens have a toss up game with the Chiefs and this move wouldn’t help the team until week 4. If Baltimore gets a win against Kansas City a monster start to the season is in play. Trading for Ramsey could make a difference against the Cleveland Browns, the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots. Ramsey would make a particularly rough stretch of the schedule, significantly easier.

The Ravens shouldn’t be so afraid to trade their number one draft pick in 2020. If the Ravens don’t trade for Ramsey they could easily end up drafting a cornerback. Jimmy Smith is probably in his last year with the Ravens. Brandon Carr isn’t a long-term plan at the position. Wouldn’t it be better to spend that first round pick on Ramsey? The Ravens would then get a player who has already established himself as an elite cornerback.

If the Ravens think Ramsey is a difference maker, they have to find a way to get him in Baltimore. If it takes a first and a third and maybe a player the Ravens can part with, it’s worth it. This is the window of opportunity. If you’ve noticed most of the teams who want Ramsey are contenders. The Chiefs, Eagles and Seahawks all want him because they think he could take them over the hump. The Ravens should get Ramsey and go win a Super Bowl in Lamar Jackson’s second season.
