3. It’s not just a defensive back problem:

Let’s be honest, the Ravens entire defense has some looking in the mirror to do. The defensive backs are culpable but they aren’t without teammates that are also struggling. The Ravens pass rush hasn’t exactly been incredible. Where is Tim Williams? Where is Tyus Bowser. The only outside linebackers with any sacks are Matt Judon and and Pernell McPhee. The secondary wasn’t one of the top concerns coming into the season however the areas of doubt for this front seven haven’t gone anywhere.

The pass coverage from the inside linebacker spot has been atrocious. Neither Kenny Young or Chris Board is doing well in this regard despite being more than athletic enough. Patrick Onwuasor is doing okay, but he hasn’t been great. The Ravens gave up big runs to the Chiefs, that helped seal the Ravens’ fate. The Ravens have the 16th overall defense and the 27th ranked defense against the pass. That’s not a result that can just be pinned on one position group. This is a problem. Baltimore expected much more from this defense.

The defense has some explaining to do. It has a lot of fixing to do. If the Ravens rebound defensively, they will alleviate a lot of this panic. For the first time in a long time, the Ravens have a highly ranked offense and the defense is letting them down. There’s no way to get around that. If the defense doesn’t improve it will be the difference between a good playoff seed and being in a tough fight just to get into the playoffs.
