With the way he’s been playing, it’s only fitting Baltimore Ravens running back Mark Ingram thinks his quarterback Lamar Jackson should be in the MVP race.

The Baltimore Ravens are coming off a huge road win on Sunday afternoon, as they took down the Seattle Seahawks 30-16 to improve to 5-2 on the year. Baltimore has a commanding 2.5-game lead over both the Cleveland Browns and the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC North race. Plus, the Ravens are getting tremendous play out of their starting quarterback Lamar Jackson.

On this week’s episode of Stacking the Box, FanSided‘s Mark Carman spoke with Ravens running back Mark Ingram Jr. on behalf of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which drops on Oct. 25., about the Ravens’ continued success and if Jackson should be in the NFL MVP race (46:57).

For sure, for sure,” said Ingram about Jackson’s 2019 NFL MVP candidacy. “And he isn’t even playing his best football right now. We’re not playing our best football right now. So he should definitely be in that conversation. As we start getting better and we start playing better as a team, he’s going to keep putting up better numbers. So I think he should be in that conversation all day.”

Ingram would add that Jackson has great control of the huddle and his energy is contagious. Though his quarterback might be giving him a run for his money as a ball carrier, Ingram has no problem with Jackson’s elusiveness as a dual-threat playmaker, as long as the Ravens keep winning and Jackson doesn’t put himself in harm’s way.

He knows that we need him, he knows how important he is,” said Ingram. “He knows that we need him to use his legs sometimes, but he knows that we need him to get down and take as minimal hits as possible…We need him to use his strengths, but we need him to stay healthy. So we just tell him to be smart.”

The Ravens will be on their annual bye in Week 8. While they should feel great about their terrific 5-2 start and having a commanding 2.5-game lead in the AFC North, the Ravens have a home date in primetime with the New England Patriots in two weeks on Sunday Night Football. It has the feel of an early playoff game, so here’s to Jackson and Ingram playing great under the lights.

Here are a few other topics that were discussed on this week’s episode of Stacking the Box:

  • Ingram: It’s your fault for sleeping on the Ravens – 44:11
  • Ingram: Everyone on the Ravens loves Jackson – 44:33
  • Ingram: My son can play football if he wants, but there are other sports, too -51:55
  • Ingram: Ravens are going to the Super Bowl – 53:45
