On Monday, October 28, the Baltimore Ravens agreed to a one-year extension with wide receiver Willie Snead. Here are our thoughts on the move:

Willie Snead has been far from a Pro Bowl wide receiver, but he’s a steady veteran who provides a young wide receiving core with leadership. The Baltimore Ravens identified this and decided they needed to retain his services headed into the 2020 season.

Snead signed a one-year, $6 million contract with Baltimore after initially signing a two-year $10.4 million deal in 2018. Snead has 223-yards and two touchdowns through seven games this season after recording 62 receptions for 651-yards and a single touchdown in 2018.

The move may come across as underwhelming, but it truly is a smart move. As Lamar Jackson continues to grow as a passer, it is vital that the Ravens maintain consistency for him to build around. Jackson has become BFFs with both Marquise Brown and Mark Andrews, but the rest of the crew is still building chemistry with one another.

In Willie Snead, Jackson has a dump-off option when his reads aren’t there. Snead is a tough receiver who makes contested grabs and provides a safety valve when the play breaks down. Snead is also a strong blocker in the run game, adding to his overall value in the Baltimore Ravens offense.

Snead is not flashy whatsoever, but he’s simply an underrated, important commodity for the team. Despite his lack of involvement in the game-plan weekly, it’s still important to hold on to him, as he gives Baltimore’s receiving core a little bit more validity.

Getting Willie Snead back for one more season for just $6 million a year is a good deal. He should continue to be an overlooked member of the offense and play steadily for the team. How do you feel about the Willie Snead extension? Sound off below in the comments and let us know what you think!
