AFC North division round-up: Baltimore Ravens have undefeated October
Pittsburgh Steelers:
October record: 2-1
For a team without its starting quarterback and a banged-up offense, the Pittsburgh Steelers sure are competitive. How could this be?
It all starts with one of the NFL’s best defenses. Despite how well the unit has played, it feels like they’re one of the best-kept secrets in the league. This pass rush is disgustingly good, led by Pro Bowler T.J. Watt. Rookie linebacker Devin Bush is going to be a finalist for Defensive Rookie of the Year and newly acquired defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick is an absolute ballhawk.
The defense is keeping Pittsburgh in every game, and they have the swagger and talent to win games by themselves. If the offense could be any type of consistent, we may be looking at a playoff-caliber team. No one saw that coming.
Still, this team has warts and the offense is its biggest Achilles heel right now. Mason Rudolph is fine, but he isn’t doing enough to win games. Without James Conner at his best, Pittsburgh has to place their hopes into Rudolph’s hands and he hasn’t yet proven to be capable of that. If he does, however, this is a team to watch out for.
The AFC North might actually be attainable for the Steelers if they can sweep the rest of their division games. Unfortunately, that includes a road trip to the red-hot Baltimore Ravens… Still, the AFC North’s second-best team in the Pittsburgh Steelers, who a month ago we believed to be tanking. Funny how time works.
The AFC North has been unpredictable this season due to preseason expectations, yet it remains the same as ever. The Cincinnati Bengals suck, the Cleveland Browns remain a dumpster fire, the Pittsburgh Steelers are always a tough out, and the Baltimore Ravens are AFC contenders. oh, AFC North division… please never change.
