According to a report by Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, Matt Skura is out for the year. Here are three reasons why the Ravens can overcome this injury:

1. Pat Mekari stepped up big against the Los Angeles Rams

The loss of Matt Skura is a blow to the Baltimore Ravens. Skura was playing at a Pro Bowl level at the center position. This is This is bad news however it isn’t going to completely derail the Ravens. The Ravens will go to the next man up approach. Pat Mekari came into the game against the Rams and held his own. That’s a positive sign.

When Skura went down, the game didn’t change at all. If you weren’t told that Mekari replaced Skura, would you even have noticed? Aaron Donald didn’t start to dominate the game. The run game didn’t stop cranking out chunks of yards. The Ravens were seemingly unaffected by the insertion of a new center.

There is going to be some of a drop off. Mekari is an undrafted free agent center. Skura has developed and grown into the position. Skura is better than Mekari probably, but let’s not act like Mekari will become a weak link. There is no reason to expect anything other than a solid performance from Mekari. He earned a roster spot as an undrafted free agent because the Ravens could envision playing him on their offensive line. The Ravens have gotten Mekari ready for this moment.
