Lamar Jackson is having an incredible season. With four games left for the Rvens Jackson can break one of Michael Vick‘s records. Here is why 2019 Jackson is better than 2006 Vick:

Lamar Jackson has a chance to break the record for the most rushing yards in a season by a quarterback. Michael Vick set the record in 2006 with 1,039 yards on the ground. Jackson has been compared to Michael Vick a lot since he got his first start in 2018 against the Bengals. Breaking Vick’s record is only going to bring that comparison back into the limelight.

Jackson still has four games left in the regular season and he has 2,532 passing yards to go along with his 977 on the ground. In 2006, Vick had 2,412 yards passing and 20 touchdowns in 15 games. Jackson is on pace to have over 3,000 yards passing. Jackson isn’t just going to beat Vick’s numbers on the ground, he’s already a much better passer than Vick was.

2006 was Vick’s sixth season in the NFL. Vick completed just over half of his passes and had 13 interceptions. Jackson is in his first full season as a starting quarterback. He’s only played in 19 regular season games.

Jackson is completing well over 60 percent of his passes, has 25 touchdowns through the air and has had two games with a perfect passer rating. Vick had one of the strongest arms in NFL history however he was never as efficient as Jackson has been in 2019.

Jackson torched the Miami Dolphins through the air. He also had five touchdown passes against the Rams. Vick had some moments like in his second chance with the Philadelphia Eagles. That being said, in the 2006 season where he set the quarterback rushing record, he wasn’t that lethal of a passer. Vick was good enough as a passer to be a dangerous dual threat. Jackson is more than good enough at producing both as a passer and a runner.

Jackson’s numbers should skyrocket past Vick’s 2006 statistics by the end of the season. It’s important to note that Jackson has rested in the fourth quarter of four games. The key thing to remember is that Jackson is clearly better than Vick was at his peak with the Atlanta Falcons and it’s only just begun.

Vick and Jackson are comparable only because in the modern era they are the only two quarterbacks with truly elite speed and a great arm. Jackson is doing things Vick couldn’t do. Jackson might actually revolutionize the quarterback position. Jackson is an MVP candidate and the offense he leads is exciting to watch. The 2006 Falcons went 7-9. The Ravens are riding eight straight wins and look like a team that can win a Super Bowl.

Vick beat you the way he had to. Jackson makes teams pick their poison. Jackson is the most balanced player in the NFL. He can do it both ways. He runs the ball better than Saquan Barkley and he throws the football as efficiently as a top-tier quarterback should.

dark. Next. Ravens vs. Bills: 3 big things

Like Jackson, Vick had to be judged on his total production rather than his passing stats. Vick was one of the most dynamic players the NFL has ever seen. Jackson should absolutely feel honored to pass the former Atlanta Falcon, and Philadelphia Eagle quarterback in the record book. Just know that when Jackson breaks Vick’s record, Jackson will have passed him in every single measurable way and it took him less than two full seasons to play to that level.
