First, he was an absolute steal as a midseason acquisition. Now, Marcus Peters is signing an extension to stay with the Baltimore Ravens long-term.

When Marcus Peters entered the NFL in 2015 he was viewed as a ball-hawking player that could be a team’s ace cornerback. While his career has had many ups and downs, he’s definitely fit the billing as the ball-hawk we pegged him to be. Peters has bounced around the NFL since he was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs, but it appears he’s found himself a home now with the Baltimore Ravens.

On Saturday, December 28, 2019, the Baltimore Ravens announced a three-year contract extension with Marcus Peters worth $42 million. The contract guarantees Peters $32 million.

General manager Eric DeCosta has made a ton of noise in his first full season as the Baltimore Ravens official GM, but everything involving Marcus Peters might be his best work yet. The way that Peters was able to seamlessly fit into Baltimore’s defense and locker room cannot be overstated.

light. Must Read. Baltimore Ravens: Chuck Clark has been an unsung hero

The Baltimore Ravens made a hell of a move to acquire Marcus Peters from the Los Angeles Rams earlier in the 2019 season, shipping away a fifth-round pick and linebacker Kenny Young for the three-time Pro Bowl corner. Peters appeared to be just a rental at the time, but it’s clear that the Ravens view him as a cornerstone for their defense long-term.

Across from Marlon Humphrey, Peters gives Baltimore one of, if not the, best cornerback tandems in the entire league. The way the two play gives the team some nice variety as well, given Humphrey’s quiet demeanor and Peter’s trash-talking and ability to get into the head of opposing receivers.

The Ravens secondary remains a deep unit by bringing Peters back. Aside from him and Humphrey, there’s also Jimmy Smith and Brandon Carr at cornerback, plus future Hall of Fame secondary Earl Thomas and another stud safety in Chuck Clark. Baltimore’s backend of the defense has been one of the strengths of the team and now the future of the unit will remain bright with Peters returning.
