2. Pernell McPhee:

Sometimes you love the player and you have to move on anyway. The Ravens got what they paid for when they brought in Pernell McPhee. Before he was injured for the last nine games of the season, McPhee had three sacks and was a valuable part of the Ravens run defense. He was a player that the Ravens could count on and in two stints with the team he’s left us with nothing but good things to say about him. It’s because he’s a 31 year old outside linebacker, with an extensive injury history, coming off of a season ending injury, that the Ravens have to move on.

If the Ravens are smart, they will invest a lot in the outside linebacker positions this season. They need to find a way to bring back Matt Judon, while finding another sure thing at the position group. The Ravens shouldn’t go into the 2020 season needing to bet on a player like McPhee. The Ravens have already thrown Tyus Bowser and Jaylon Ferguson into the deep end of the pool.

The Ravens need to keep coaching this young duo up while Judon and a star to be named later steal the show. The Ravens didn’t go into last season thinking that McPhee was part of the plan. They signed McPhee and Shane Ray in quick succession, hoping that one of them would end up being the veteran presence they needed. The Ravens need to walk into the net season with their ideal group of pass rushers.
