2. Josh Bynes:
The Ravens signed Josh Bynes and L.J. Fort a few weeks into the 2019 season and it paid off in a big way. The Ravens have already locked up Fort for a couple more seasons, now they could reasonably give the same kind of deal to Bynes. Bynes, who is in his second stint with the Ravens is a player that just kind of fits in Baltimore. He’s a hard hitting linebacker with some versatility. Bynes intercepted a pass against the Pittsburgh Steelers in his first game with the Ravens this year. He made an immediate impact because he could play assignment football, something Kenny Young and Chris Board just weren’t doing.
Bynes had six tackles in the playoff loss to the Tennessee Titans. It was a game where most of the defense seemed uninterested in hitting Derrick Henry, so it’s good to see Bynes showed up. Bynes had 46 tackles, a sack and two picks on the year. That’s not bad at all. The question becomes, what do the Ravens want to do at the inside linebacker position? Most pundits consider inside linebacker to be a position of need.
They know that Fort is part of the equation. They also know they need at least one upgrade for the position group this offseason. It’s likely that the Ravens may only keep one of their two free agent inside linebackers, Bynes and Onwuasor. They have to make a decision. Bynes is a quality player, yet it’s not overly difficult to find linebackers who are just as good as Bynes. The Ravens have a decision to make and they can justify either outcome here.
