1. Matt Judon:

Matt Judon is the closest thing the Ravens are going to get to Terrell Suggs. That’s not saying that Judon is as good as the future Hall of Fame player from Arizona State, yet he’s the player that fills the Sizzle void. Matt Judon is the leader of the front seven. He’s a little silly, he’s high energy and he’s a high effort player. He has to be brought back to lead what will be a young group of outside linebackers, no matter what Eric DeCosta does this offseason. The Ravens keep letting their pass rushers go elsewhere just to wish that they had more pass rush. It doesn’t matter if it takes the franchise tag to do it, the Ravens must bring back Judon.

The Ravens number one need this offseason is pass rusher. If the Ravens don’t bring back Judon that need gets worsened. It’s worth noting that the only outside linebacker the Ravens could really trust to set the edge in run defense, was Judon. He may not be the 12 sack player that Baltimore craves, yet he’s the best player the defensive front has. He’s a 2019 Pro Bowl selection and he’s miles better than Tyus Bowser and Jaylon Ferguson. The Ravens could have brought back Za’Darius Smith. They made it a choice between him and Judon. If they let Judon go, not signing Smith all the sudden becomes an unforgivable mistake.

The Ravens may want to say they have a choice here. They don’t. The success of their defense hinges on their ability to keep their secondary elite and to get their pass rushing situation much more exciting. The Ravens have to bring back Judon because he has finally proven that he can be a building block piece for the franchise. If the Ravens don’t keep Judon, they have to do a lot of work at outside linebacker. They might as well make him return to the purple and black. Otherwise they just add to their offseason to do list.
